We had a fantastic weekend in Big Sur, with delicious food and fun people and beautiful hikes and many, many California condors. Which is significant since there are only 125 in the world, and thirty years ago there were only TWENTY.
They have a wing span of nine to ten feet – this guy wasn’t too far overhead and with the binoculars we could read the numbers on the wing tags. They aren’t beautiful but they are breathtaking.
And now I’m off to one of my close friend’s 50th birthday parties, which is difficult to even think about. FIFTY! But she is as sassy and sexy and full of fun and adventure as she was when I met her almost twenty years ago.
Here is a cute, saucy cake from a recent wedding – the whole reception had a retro, 50s feel, and the black and white edible ribbon matched their invitations. The red was bold but fun, and the cake was a delicious hit.
