Cake Tuesday: lotus flower.
It is wonderfully cool and sunny in Santa Cruz - October is always spectacular here. I've got family coming into town next week from Kentucky and I can't wait to share my town with them!
Here is a relatively autumnal cake - the chocolate brown edible ribbon with sugar ivy, topped with a sugar lotus flower.

There were several flavors of cake, all frosted with buttercream; there was even a tiny cheesecake just for the ring bearer. The lotus flower was a little tricky to do, but turned out very close to the picture:

Those centers are so strange - something you don't really notice until you go to make it out of sugar.
My actual garden is in dire need of weeding and pruning and mulching as the temperatures drop. But there's a new section of yard I can't wait to share pictures of later this week - we've gone native!
