Cake Tuesday: back to basics.
So many fun things to catch you up on - next month I promise to have more regular non-cake related updates. I miss writing! Fall is my absolute favorite season and this one has been amazing. Today was chilly and breezy (none of the 50 MPH winds they were predicting, mind you) and sunny and perfect. I got a chance to wander the shops downtown with a friend, and we had delicious sandwiches and salads while we soaked up the sunshine in the courtyard of Limelight. One criticism - they say they have sweet tea on the menu (they even have the nerve to call it "Southern"!), and I almost fell out of my chair with excitement. That, dear Limelight tea-brewers, is NOT sweet tea. (The caesar made up for it, though.)
There are so many great stores in Santa Cruz - Stripe makes me happy just walking in the door. Everywhere you look are supercool design elements - the shop name over the banner of old keys; the huge crystal chandelier made of half a dozen smaller antique versions; even the thumbtacks holding old postcards are interesting and different. And I could spend DAYS in Bookshop Santa Cruz - hands-down the best store in town. I'm so looking forward to the season slowing down so I can start to enjoy my town again!
But the whole year has been full of amazing clients and great cakes. This past weekend I was lucky enough to work with two wonderful women tying the knot at Michael's on Main. They were very low-key and easy-going, but with a lot of sparkle. The cake was just like that - simple and unfussy, but with vibrant colors and interesting shapes and great flavor combinations.

If I get a link to the wedding photos I'll definitely post it here - it was a typically gorgeous October afternoon and everything looked so pretty!
