Cake Tuesday: toppers.

First of all, MARCH. Yipes - blink an eye and two months are gone. I'm STILL pausing before I write "09" on checks.

Now then, toppers.

Last week I shared the seahorse toppers I made; people liked those enough that I thought I'd share more custom toppers. Here are hummingbirds I created as part of a woodland cake, with sugar butterflies and ferns, for a wedding held in the log cabin at the Presidio.

Sometimes I'm asked to do actual people, which is a lot trickier. The first one I ever made was in a situation where I'd never met the groom or seen a photo - he was just described to me by the bride. So when I delivered the cake and this really tall, thin bald guy with a mustache was walking around, I was all "HEY. I KNOW YOU."

Very amusing but also a relief because it actually looked more like him than I could have hoped. Whew! They had their first date at the beach, and watched the sunset from a log there, so the topper held extra-special meaning for them.
