Cake Tuesday: tired honeybee.
So named because a) Superchunk wrote a great song with this lyric some time ago, b) I've just walked in from another class, this one 50% larger than the first, which is significant and I am WIPED, and c) we've got some new residents in the garden.

So industrious and yet very sweet-tempered. I can be working in the raised bed right next to the hive and they don't pay any attention to me. And from the street you don't see or hear a single bee. A little weird, actually, but apparently they travel up to four miles collecting pollen so they're a little busy. Bee. (Ha.) Some good information on beekeeping, if you're remotely interested, can be found here. CCD did a number on their numbers all over the country, but the Heitkam bees are doing very well, and Craig Heitkam's honey, available locally at farmers' markets, is the best I've ever had.

He brought us a little jar when he dropped off the bees, and because I'm from the South I immediately made some biscuits to drizzle it on:

YUM. I have some honey-flavored liqueur that we bought in Paris a couple of years ago - now I can make my own! No end of honey possibilities.
On to cakes.
For today I'm sharing a recent creation that was really fun - it was for a girl who makes cakes (cupcakes, actually!) for a living, so the pressure was on. She wanted something unusual and colorful but still very elegant and formal, and this fit the bill:

The aqua with the white sugar coral as a contrast was so striking, and the coral-colored ribbon around the base was picked up in accents around the room - great colors. And I was told (I didn't get a chance to see them!) that the bridesmaids' dresses were the best the coordinator had ever seen. I'm dying to see pictures - I'll share them if I can track them down.
Next Tuesday I'll be away for a tiny visit with my mom, who I don't get to see often enough. We're going to hang out for a couple of days doing mother-daughter things - I'll try to post while I'm there. In the meantime, enjoy some sunshine and eat your spoonful of honey a day!
