Cake Tuesday: organic hazelnuts (with a side trip to Northstar).

Well happy 2009! Sorry for the silence - it's already shaping up to be a wildly busy year, and in the midst of all the planning and meetings I was lucky enough to have my little brother come out for a visit from North Carolina.

Scott and I spent a couple of days in Tahoe - I haven't been on my board in at least two years but it was GREAT to get back in the saddle, so to speak:

Here's a little apres board - are we smiling or grimacing? Hard to tell:

But I did spend the next several days walking around whining about my very sore calves.

Hm - for today's cake, I wanted to kick off the new year with a very natural, organic design. These tiers are Italian hazelnut cake, with fresh ground hazelnut buttercream. I used sugared organic olive branches from my tiny olive grove to decorate the tiers, and the bride had this stand made with salvaged wood from a wine barrel.

The wedding was at the incredibly cool Holly Farm, and the Italian theme was carried through the entire event. Viva i sposi!
