Cake Tuesday: lacy part deux.

Wow. It's dangerously easy to ignore this blog (I'm sure you feel the same way).

I've been overloaded with Facebook and Twitter nonsense and just haven't felt that I've had anything interesting to say, and saying nothing is remarkably simple.

Three excuses for not writing (I could come up with a dozen in less than a minute but we'll start with just three).

1. I tweaked my neck WEEKS ago at a Beyoncé concert (don't judge me) and the constant pain has made me feel very old and grumbly.

2. I read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, a beautifully written book (I didn't know it was an Oprah book, I swear! - again, don't judge me), was horrified by the ending, went online to look for answers and got them, and then got fed up with the huge number of incredibly dumb comments about it. If you learn that a story is based, plotline by plotline, on a very famous tale in which the main character and everyone around him dies, then how can you POSSIBLY say "yeah I get that it's based on [said famous tale] but why did [insert any of a dozen names here] have to die?"? Seriously??

3. Work is killing me. I'm not complaining. I love my job, I love my clients. But every year has a wildly popular month (which, surprisingly, varies from year to year), and this year August wins.

One of my cakes this weekend was another one incorporating lace, but much more dramatic and imposing than the last entry's. Five square tiers, bordered with edible satin ribbon. The largest tier - it's tough to see in the photo - had several layers of the ribbon, which matched the bottom of the bride's (GORGEOUS) dress. Then small bits of the lace pattern were added sparingly to the tiers, to keep it very clean. Mary Lois Hare did the flowers - I can't tell you how very much I enjoy working with her.

Now I'm knee-deep in sugar ivy leaves, drum bits, and cherry blossoms. Plenty of fun to share - I promise I'll make the time to share it.
