van gogh in my garden.
(First of all, you know it's spring when you're walking through the garden and hear REALLY LOUD CHEWING. @#$&#% gophers - welcome back.)
Anyway. You know how sometimes you have something in your head, but you're not really sure how it will turn out in real life?
That was my flower bank. The remodel was taking over a chunk of yard that had a huge bed of calla lilies and two kinds of irises. Instead of letting the demo crew take it all to the dump, I spent a day last summer frantically digging a trench along the front hedge, digging up all the bulbs and replanting them along the length of the trench. Then I watered like crazy and held my breath. And voila!

Somehow it worked. The callas started popping up in late January, just as we were getting settled in, and the irises have been emerging over the last month.

By the time there are blueberries on the bushes there in front of the bench and plums to pull from the branches overhead the flowers will be long gone, but in the meantime they're a fine excuse to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
