Cake Tuesday: sugar shells.

Monochromatic cakes can be just as interesting as colorful ones. This cake - all cheesecake, by the way - was banded with twisted ropes of gumpaste and then loaded with handmade edible shells, coral, and pearls.

Some couples ignore the fact that they're getting married in a coastal spot; others embrace it. I forget we live at the beach sometimes - I imagine it's like living anywhere, and not having/taking the time to appreciate one's surroundings on a regular basis. How many Parisians take regular cruises down the Seine? We're five minutes from the ocean, but don't actually GO often enough to sit and wriggle our toes into the sand with a stack of New Yorkers and a thermos of gin and tonics. I'm solemnly pledging to do that before the end of the week. (That, and get my @!^%#& August and September blog entries filed and available for your re-reading pleasure.)
