my weekends aren't weekends.

The wedding season is upon us, and Saturdays and Sundays from now until close to Christmas are wrapped up in cake and tied with a big chocolate ribbon. I'm not complaining. This weekend looked sort of like this:

with a little of this:

followed by this:

The first cake had such great color contrast - the couple's whole reception was that combination of pool blue and a soft lime green, which worked beautifully against the white fondant. And I've got a huge collection of silicone shell molds that make really realistic shells (even more so when the client wants them naturally colored, like these).

The second cake was three different flavors, all covered in a white chocolate wrap (literally melted white chocolate). Each Icelandic poppy takes around ten steps to make: wrap the floral wire; form the gumpaste center around the wire; wire tiny little stamens with tiny little nubs of gumpaste around the center; roll, cut, mold, and then ruffle each individual petal (after it's properly colored, of course); wrap the petals around the center; form and let dry. I totally love making sugar flowers, but they're incredibly time-consuming.

After the drop off in Carmel, my delivery assistant and I took a picnic to Pfeiffer State Beach and watched the sunset. The perfect end to a pretty good day.
