Happy Valentine's Day.
(A little glimpse into my aesthetic sensibilities, and high on the list of Things That Really Bug Me: why don't all fonts have an actual APOSTROPHE instead of that THING, sometimes called a prime mark, or a diacritic, or whatever, which I KNOW is considered acceptable but it really is not. I actually have to leave SPACES in my Photoshop documents, and then go back and fill them in with carefully placed COMMAS. If someone knows a better way to do this, please let me know.) But back to the holiday at hand. Happy happy.
Some of our best friends sent a Valentine's card, with incredible pictures of their incredible children, and a list of all the fun shared memories of 2007. In the early evening, just before we were heading out to dinner, another friend stopped by with a little plate of homemade chocolate covered strawberries, topped with a beautiful homemade card. It is a time to express love, and in Finland Valentine's Day is actually translated as "Friend's Day" - we have so many friends to be thankful for.

Blossoming branches are my favorite pre-spring flower. Things start blooming early in California, so we'll cross our collective fingers on the weather staying above freezing from now on. We have a plum and an apple that both provide beautiful blossoms, and we may or may not have a quince tree. We (stupidly) transplanted it in the middle of summer last year, when it was finally thriving after years of looking like an overgrown twig. We should know in the next month or so, if new growth appears...
Here is a bunch in the living room:

Dropping petals everywhere but making me unreasonably happy in the meantime. And speaking of unreasonably happy, if you haven't yet read Pam's valentines this year, please do.
