time flies.

Sorry for the silence – sometimes living just gets in the way of writing about living, you know?

It was almost NINETY degrees this weekend. And it’s barely April. (I’m wilting just THINKING about July…) I had really fun cake deliveries this weekend, and we had a symphony event on Saturday night. It was blazing hot in San Francisco, too – Paul K had the door open and fans running, but it was still borderline uncomfortable, so we ordered deliciously icy French 75s (served on the rocks and hands down the best anywhere) and cooled off before enjoying dinner.

The performance was good, but I liked last Tuesday’s even more – it was a free concert for subscribers, showcasing some of the musical events in the upcoming season. A number of the musicians had been selected to perform and also talk a bit about themselves and their involvement with the SF Symphony. The organist, Dennis James, who played Bach’s Toccata in D Minor (arguably the most popular organ music ever written, even though it was apparently written for the violin?), was smart and funny, and at some points in the music just put his hands on the bench and played with his feet. Davies Symphony Hall has the largest pipe organ in North America, with over nine thousand pipes, some of them the size of a ballpoint pen and some of them that you can walk through. One of the fun events coming up next season will be the silent film, “The Phantom of the Opera”, with Mr. James accompanying. (Even better – it’s on Halloween!)

Sunday morning we made it to the farmer’s market with some friends, where we scooped up several pints of just-picked organic strawberries and enjoyed the sunshine and live music there. And last night we were invited to a wonderful dinner party - terrific people and delicious food. I brought dessert – individual fresh lime curd tarts, topped with the berries and barely-sweetened organic whipped cream.
