it's the holidays.

Sorry I missed posting a recipe on Friday - I was up to my chin in cakes and cookies and pear martinis. The weekend was full of wonderful events, and our Christmas party was certainly high on the list.

The most popular treat by far was the ginger cookies - I made close to two hundred and every one disappeared.

I wish I had a shot of the pear martinis - they were gorgeous. I followed Martha's recipe and made dozens of paper thin pear slices, simmering them in simple syrup and drying them in the oven. The drink itself is equal parts lemon scented vodka and pear brandy, with just a splash of Cointreau. It's not too sweet - just fresh and (quite) strong, and the pear chips were addictive.

Sunday we saw Enchanted, which was, well, enchanting. Amy Adams was absolutely delightful, and you know Susan Sarandon had a BALL as the evil stepmother.

We're getting lots of rain here in town - perfect for staying in and finishing my Christmas cards. Or, rather, procrastinating and cranking the heat and turning the tree lights on and browsing online for international airfares.

We're hiking the Inca Trail in May.
